About The Site

In May 1903, the establishment of Our Lady of Czestochowa marked the beginning of a vibrant Polish community in North Tonawanda, leading to the formation of various clubs and organizations, such as the Harmonia Singing Society in 1919. This society constructed a building at 576 Oliver Street, which became a central hub for the Polish community, hosting plays, concerts, and classes that helped Polish immigrants adapt to American life. In 1921, the society merged with the Knights of St. Casimer, becoming Dom Polski, a civic center for North Tonawanda's Polish population. Dom Polski hosted significant events, including a rally for General Joseph Haller in 1940, and it became a gathering place for both Polish and non-Polish residents, including local labor unions and political parties. Today, Dom Polski continues to be a vital part of North Tonawanda's Polish American community. It hosts annual Dyngus Day celebrations and frequent Polish dinner parties, preserving and promoting Polish traditions and culture. The hall remains a symbol of community cohesion and cultural pride, attracting both long-time residents and newcomers who are interested in the rich history and traditions of North Tonawanda’s Polish heritage.
